I don't know what to do with my hair!

No for real. I don't know what to do with my hair right now. It's just a curly fro - and it has the nerve to have some gray strands in there!! Tuh!

I usually like to go to the Dominicans and get nice silky blowouts in the winter. They last longer in the ice-cold Connecticut air. But now that I've been working out, I've been sweating them out...looking like Buckwheat in the front and Beyoncé in the back. (Well not quite Beyoncé, but you get the point...smooth, silky hair on the ends.)

I've tried the ponytail thing...where you make a tight-ass ponytail and tie the top of your hair down with a scarf or doo-rag. Except, last week I couldn't find my scarf, so I used navy-blue stockings. (Yes, I know that's ghetto or country or something.)

During my plyometric workout the legs came apart and were dangling around my head. The man next to me was laughing. I didn't appreciate that. *sideye* Lol.

I came across this article written by a fellow journalist, Mara Schiavocampo, who shared some hair tips for working out. (She recently wrote a book about her weight journey titled THINspired.)

In the article she recommends, several strategies: getting weaved up, wrapping your hair, going natural, getting an up-do (this is what I tried...this is not working for me), and using dry shampoo.

I'll let you know what I decide to do. Who know's maybe I'll be bald next week. :)

Just do it...even if you suck!!

Just Do It...Even if you suck! You'll get better eventually.

I am not the fastest runner. My form could probably be a little better. One day I hope to run farther than I do now, but I still get out and run because it brings me joy. That runner's high is no joke. :)

Eventually, I will run faster and longer as long as I keep getting out there and pushing myself a little harder each time.

You will too!

Q. How did you start running?

Photo: Me and the jacket that caused my running addiction.
Lately, I've been getting questions about how I started running.
Maybe because it's a new year, and people are trying to get their bodies on fleek. (Did I say that right? Lol)
I ran track in high school, but once I graduated, I promised myself I would never run again…unless there was an emergency (i.e. someone was chasing me).
Never say never, I guess. I broke that promise shortly after my 31st birthday. My mom bought me a running jacket as a gift, and I wanted to try it out.
I jogged once around my block…which is about a quarter of a mile (one lap around a track). I remember - I was listening to “B**tch, Don’t Kill My Vibe” followed by Rihanna’s “Pour it Up.” I ran slow, but I was winded and sweaty when I finished. It probably took me 5 minutes – a 20-minute mile, but it felt good.
So I kept doing it – just the quarter mile. On the days I was able to push myself a little further, I did. Then one day, the Nike Run app told me I ran my fastest 5K. I was like “Who me???”
I challenged myself to my first 5K race…and then 6 more.
The End.
